Funerals at St Mary’s
When someone dies, the Church is here – to offer comfort, hope, and a space to say goodbye. Whether you are facing a recent loss or planning ahead, we want you to know you are not alone.
Our clergy are available to lead funerals for those who live in the parish or have a connection with St Mary’s. We will walk gently with you, helping to shape a service that reflects the life of your loved one and holds their memory in the light of God’s love.
Where Can the Funeral Be Held?
Funeral services can take place:
In St Mary’s Church
At the crematorium
At a cemetery or churchyard
We’ll help guide you through the choices, whether you wish for a simple service or something more formal, and support you with readings, music, and prayers that bring comfort and meaning.
The Churchyard
St Mary’s churchyard is now closed for new burials, but it remains a place of prayer and remembrance. Interment of ashes is still possible for parishioners and for those with close family already buried here. Due to space, this is offered with care and consideration.
Let’s Begin the Conversation
If you're planning a funeral or would simply like to talk, please get in touch with the Parish Office. We’re here to help in any way we can.

At St Mary’s, we hold those who grieve with tenderness, and we entrust those we love into the eternal care of God.
“God of all consolation,
your Son Jesus Christ was moved to tears at the grave of Lazarus his friend.
Look with compassion on your children in their loss; give to troubled hearts the light of hope and strengthen in us the gift of faith, in Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.”
